He earned his DDS from Seoul National University in 1989, then completed a three-year orthodontic residency and a Master of Science degree. He followed it with three years of prosthodontic training and a second Master of Science, from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in New York.
The practical difference is sequencing. A tooth that is tipped, over-erupted or drifted often has to be moved before it can be crowned, or before an implant can go in beside it. When one clinician can see both halves of that problem, the plan accounts for the movement from the start instead of discovering the need for it halfway through.

Prosthodontics is one of the dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. It takes three years of full-time training after dental school, spent entirely on restoring and replacing teeth.
A general dentist restores individual teeth. A prosthodontist is trained to plan the whole bite — how the teeth meet, what the jaw joint tolerates, how a restoration will hold up in five and ten years, and in what order the work has to happen when several problems overlap.

Every case starts with records — a scan, imaging, and an assessment of how the bite actually functions. The restoration is designed from that, not from an impression of a single tooth. Where implants are involved, the position is planned from a 3D scan against the crown or denture that will eventually sit on it.

Dr. Yoon performs the surgical procedures that prepare a site for a restoration — surgical extractions, socket preservation, bone grafting, ridge augmentation and implant placement. Work that belongs with an oral surgeon, including wisdom teeth, is referred out.

No. Many patients are referred by their general dentist, but you can book directly. If you already have a dentist you like, we handle the specialist portion of your care and send you back to them for routine visits.
